Sprawl-by-the-Sea, 2020-
An exercise in CSS and JavaScript to create a before-and-after slider. The desire was to juxtapose key images that illustrate historical change and development in Newport, Rhode Island from the 1930s to today. Sourcing vintage aerial negatives from the Robert Yarnall Richie Photographic Collection at SMU, I geo-referenced drone imagery which I photographed beginning in Spring of 2020. Structure from Motion: Castle Dromagh, 2019
I generated this model with photogrammetric mapping with 70 captures taken at 1.5/sec intervals, extracted from DJI Mavic Pro 2 footage, and combined with 50 still images taken by the same. Decimated from 2,400,000 vertices down to 750,000, via Meshroom 2018, and further sliced to 1/5 size to structure detail via MeshLab. Horizon has been manually corrected.
Traditional seat of the Ó Caoimh/O'Keeffe family. Later owned by the Leader, Philpot, and O’Leary families of Dromagh, Cork, Ireland.
